The freshly named Carnival Mardi Gras cruise ship visits San Juan, Puerto Rico. The ship has already visited the Caribbean island, but this time it was greeted by Miss Universe Puerto Rico, since the godmother of Mardi Gras is Miss Universe Dominican Republic.

It wasn’t just another Carnival Cruise Line voyage to San Juan, Puerto Rico, during Mardi Gras. The ship’s first port of call since being christened days earlier on October 23 is San Juan, which it will visit on its seven-day Eastern Caribbean trip.
The ship was greeted by Estefania Soto-Torres, the incumbent Miss Universe Puerto Rico, and Michelle Colón, the upcoming Miss Universe Puerto Rico. Miss Universe, Dominican Republic, Kimberly Jiménez, who christened the ship on Saturday, is on board, as is Miss Universe Andrea Meza and Miss USA Asya Branch, Mardi Gras’ new godmother.

Carnival Cruise Line President Christine Duffy was on aboard for such a fantastic journey as Mardi Gras. “We are happy to be back in Puerto Rico and to be able to include our destinations in the celebration of our new ship,” Duffy remarked. Puerto Rico has made it even more spectacular by welcoming the present and incoming Miss Universes.”

Before the current cruise, Mardi Gras was christened at Port Canaveral, Florida. On October 23, top Carnival executives, including Chief Fun Officer Shaquille O’Neal, the cruise line’s Presidents, and, of course, godmother Kimberly Jiménez, attended a naming ceremony on board the ship.
Mardi Gras Cruise Director Mike Pack and the cruise line’s Ambassador John Heald hosted the event. In both English and Spanish, Jiménez blessed the ship and initiated the ceremonial champagne bottle break, formally christening it.
The following are some highlights from the event:
It comes after Mardi Gras sailed from the port for the first time on July 31, 2021. Due to the present circumstances on resting operations with many ships and the continuing epidemic, the naming ceremony has been delayed.
The ship will stop in Amber Cove in the Dimononcan Republic, the godmother’s native nation, as well as Nassau in the Bahamas, before returning to Port Canaveral on October 30, 2021.
The Mardi Gras is the fleet’s biggest ship, with the first rollercoaster at sea and more than two dozen eating outlets, including Guy Fieri, Emeril Lagasse, Rudi Sodamin, and Shaquille O’Neal. The ship has a gross tonnage of 180,800 tons, a passenger capacity of 5,282 at double occupancy, and a crew of 1,735 foreign crew members.
