In a bold move, Virgin Group founder Richard Branson has purchased Necker Island, the world’s second-largest private island. The purchase is part of a dramatic expansion of his portfolio that includes properties in the United Kingdom and China.

The Virgin Limited portfolio’s Moskito Island, a sister island to Richard Branson’s ultra-luxury Necker Island in the British Virgin Islands, is scheduled to launch this week with two new estates.
The Point Estate and The Oasis Estates, in addition to the Branson Estate, are offered for purchase on the island, which already has privately held villa estates and the Branson Estate.
What’s Hot Right Now
“We wanted to build something really unique with the island homeowners and provide a rental program unlike any other hospitality experience in the Caribbean, so we are ecstatic to share this with the world,” said Virgin Limited Edition CEO Jon Brown.
“Through stunning architecture and one-of-a-kind design, each estate contributes its own sense of flair to create extremely distinct island retreats.”
Necker Island is visible from Moskito Island, which Branson purchased in 2007.
“When Richard bought the island in 2007, he was able to take inspiration from his beloved Necker Island and infuse some of the great features and characteristics that have helped it become the success it is today,” Brown said. “However, it is Moskito Island’s individuality and charm that distinguishes it — a consequence of not just Richard’s vision for the island, but also a fusion of other like-minded homeowners, their ideas, and their own distinct vision for the island.”

The Oasis Estate, located on Moskito Island’s highest point, has a six-bedroom Main House, an 812-square-foot Master Suite with panoramic views, and three waterside bedrooms. The estate’s nine bedrooms can accommodate a total of 18 people.
The Point Estate, on the island’s southwest edge, has eight bedrooms and can accommodate 22 people. It has two master bedrooms: Hillside Master, which has a panoramic view of the whole estate, and Seaside Master, which has a beautiful view of the water at the bottom of the estate.

Three villas make up the 11-bedroom Branson Estate: Headland House, Mangrove Villa, and Beach Villa. They can accommodate 22 people and come with kitchens, living spaces, an infinity pool, and hot tubs. A private beach and a beach bar with a dining space are also available on the estate.
During the low season, rates start at $17,500 per night. All meals, beverages, watersports, and a “hyper-personalized itinerary from start to finish” are included, according to Virgin Limited Edition.
